November Goals

November is going to be busy, that is for sure. I’ve been doing some intensive tinkering and seasoning on novel #2 for several months, and now it is time for it to gently simmer on the back burner of my brain.

 

Instead, for all of November, I’ll be joining in the madness known as NaNoWriMo. This National Novel Writing Month Project is a nation-wide literary (but not literal) marathon.  The goal is to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. It started today, November 1st, and will end on the 30th when 50,000 words are reached or sanity is lost.

 

Although the first day to write is today, I’ve been brainstorming plans for success for a few weeks. A keystone the plan is to wake up early, at 5:30 a.m., at write for an hour every day.

 

So, today I started at 8:00 p.m.

 

Yeah, I’m a work in progress, and so is this. 50,000 words – 12,500 per week – 1667.66 per day, if I strictly stick to schedule. True, I haven’t so far, but I’m feeling confident about tomorrow. I’m always confident about tomorrow. It’s the day where all the things get done.

 

If packing a novel into a month wasn’t bonkers enough, I’m also upping my running and training for a 5 mile Turkey Trot, hopefully to kick off training for a half marathon in the spring. Since it took so very long for my last injury to fully heal, I’ve been increasing mileage at the pace of a decaffeinated sloth. Yoga several times a week has been great to supplement my running and keep away all forms of knee niggles and devil’s tickles (more commonly known as shin splints). It has been so long since I’ve run completely pain free that I forgot how much better it is!   

 

Hopefully, in 30 days I’ll be able to report that I have run a literal and metaphorical race.
